Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Rick Balabon was drafted in the first round of the 1985 amateur draft by the New York Yankees. He struggled in the Yankees farm system. By 1987 he had only started one game for the AA Albany-Colonie Yankees. He was then traded to the Seattle Mariners along with Troy Evers and Jay Buhner for Ken Phelps.

Injuries limited him to only 14 games in 1988. He saw his first real sucess in 1989 pitching for the San Bernardino Spirit. He went 10-6 with a 2.57 ERA in 22 starts. He would split the 1990 season between the Peninsula Pilots and Williamsport Bills. In 1991 he finally reached AAA with the Calgary Cannons.
