Biographical information[edit]
Rich Hill has been a college coach for over 20 years.
Hill was undrafted out of college. Signed by the St. Louis Cardinals, he went 17 for 82 with 4 walks, 2 doubles and a triple as a backup for the 1985 Savannah Cardinals. He was named head coach of California Lutheran University, a role he held from 1988-1993, going 194-74. He took the team to the 1992 Division III College World Series (finishing second) and 1993 Division III College World Series. He was named Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1992 and 1993. He also was head coach of the Chatham A's from 1990-1993, winning the Cape Cod League title in 1992. He was honored as the Cape Cod League Manager of the Year.
Hill coached the University of San Francisco from 1994-1998. He moved to the University of San Diego in 1999 and went 382-261-3 in his first 21 years there. In 2003, he earned his 500th career coaching win. He set the school record of 44 wins in 2008 and was named West Coast Conference Coach of the Year; he also won that honor in 2007. After 23 years Hill was hired to be head coach at University of Hawai'i at Manoa for 2022.
