Biographical Information[edit]
Reid Redman was drafted twice out of Texas Tech University, first by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 37 th round in 2011, then by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 23rd round in 2012. He signed on June 13th. He was an infielder at the time and played his first season with the Princeton Rays of the Appalachian League in 2012. Playing 52 games at 2B and 6 at 3B, he hit .265/.324/.376 with 15 doubles, 2 homers and 2 RBIs.
On June 17, 2013, he was released by the Rays, but two days later, he was signed by the Florida Marlins, who decided to turn him into a pitcher. He was sent to the Batavia Muckdogs of the New York-Penn League where he was 2-2, 1.91 in 19 games. He had another good season on the mound in 2014, split between the Jupiter Hammerheads of the Florida State League and Jacksonville Suns of the Southern League. He was a combined 5-1, 2.04 in 44 games with 7 saves and 68 strikeouts in 61 2/3 innings. After the season, on November 28th, he was traded to the Kansas City Royals alongside P Brian Flynn in return for veteran reliever Aaron Crow.
In 2015, an elbow injury limited Reid to 9 games with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals of the Texas League. He recorded one save with a 3,363 ERA in 17 1/3 innings. After 6 rehabilitation games in the lower levels of the organization, he was back at Northwest Arkansas in July of 2016 and pitched well in 16 appearances, going 0-2, 2.77 in 26 innings and recording 21 Ks against 8 walks.
Redman's father, Dale, and brother, Hunter Redman, also played for Texas Tech [1]. Hunter also played minor league baseball.
