Biographical Information[edit]
Red Smyth was an outfielder trying to break in with Brooklyn at a time when two thirds of the outfield was Zack Wheat and Casey Stengel. Moving to the St. Louis Cardinals midway through 1917, he had more luck getting playing time in 1917 and 1918. While the infield was anchored by star shortstop Rogers Hornsby, the outfield was less famous.
