Biographical Information

Randy Scarbery was a first round draft choice of the Houston Astros in the 1970 amateur draft. Deciding to attend college, he was again a first round pick, this time by the Oakland Athletics in the 1973 amateur draft. Scarbery made the majors in 1979 and 1980 with the Chicago White Sox. He had a 3-10 record with a 4.50 ERA and 6 saves. The best start of his career came on July 22, 1979 against the Detroit Tigers. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 2 hits, 1 earned run, walking 1 and striking out 2. Unfortunately, he lost the game as Tigers pitchers Milt Wilcox and Aurelio Lopez combined to shut out the White Sox. He had saves in back-to-back games on July 8th and 9, 1979 against the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers. He was traded to the California Angels on June 12, 1980 for Todd Cruz but never played for the Angels.
