Biographical Information[edit]
Randy Elliott was the first first-round draft choice of the San Diego Padres, selected 24th overall in the 1969 amateur draft. He reached the major leagues with the Padres at the end of the 1972 season, after having been MVP of the AA Texas League with the Alexandria Aces that year. He hit .335 with 19 homers and 85 RBI in the minors that year, the hit .204 in 14 games with San Diego. He had another stint with the Padres in 1974, when he hit .212 in 13 games. He hat hit a sparkling .321 in 112 games in AAA with the Hawaii Islanders that season, but still couldn't find a job with the big league club.
He was released by the Padres during spring training in 1976 and was picked up by the California Angels but did not play in the minors that year. He moved on to the San Francisco Giants and spent the entire 1977 season with the team as a back-up outfielder. In 73 games, he hit .240 with 7 homers and 26 RBI. However, he was released by the Giants at the end of spring training the next year and was out of baseball for the next two seasons. He signed with the Oakland Athletics in 1980 and hit .429 in 8 games for the Ogden A's, earning another shot at the Show. He played 4 games for the Athletics, but hit only .148 and was released, ending his career.
