Biographical Information

Randy Curran was a long-time slugger for the Kitchener Panthers. He finished his career (1984-2004) as the all-time Intercounty Baseball League leader in home runs (154) and RBI (485, since broken).

Curran also played for Team Canada in the 1987 Intercontinental Cup, 1987 Pan American Games (in which he hit a 2-run homer against Cuba) and 1988 Olympics. In the 1988 Baseball World Cup, Curran hit .200/.324/.467, with four of his six hits going for extra bases. He split DH with Bill Byckowski and LF with Jim Kotkas. He was in the 1990 Goodwill Games. In the 1990 Baseball World Cup, Randy was Canada's top batter, producing at a .471/.538/.824 clip with 10 RBI in 9 games, playing mainly DH. He had little shot of making the tournament All-Star team, though, as Cuban DH Orestes Kindelán hit 9 home runs, drove in 25 and slugged 1.372.

He played for three seasons in Italy as well. He hit .346/.520/.646 for Verona in 1991, with 7 homers, 42 walks, 43 runs and 36 RBI in 36 games. In 1992, he was even better - .372/.544/.743, 10 HR, 41 BB to 14 K, 32 R, 34 RBI in 36 G. He was second to Gar Millay in walks and tied David Rigoli, Giuseppe Carelli and Franco Collina for 5th in homers. He did not play for Verona in 1993. In 1994, he produced at a .417/.584/.750 clip with 55 walks, 14 strikeouts, 42 runs and 52 RBI in 41 games; he played error-free ball in right field as well. He was second in walks (one behind former major leaguer Brad Komminsk), tied for 5th in home runs and tied Gianfranco Vandi for 5th in homers. He was .014 behind batting champion Luis Martinez, led in OBP and was third in slugging behind Komminsk and Armando Moreno.
