Biographical Information[edit]

Pin-Jui Chiu pitched in the CPBL for 8 years.

Chiu was drafted by the Brother Elephants in the first round of the 2010 CPBL Draft, and he spent his first two seasons primarily in the CPBL minor leagues. He joined their bullpen in 2013, and he had a 4.89 ERA in 35 games. He was demoted again in 2014, and he only pitched one game with the big club. Chiu had a solid 2.68 ERA in 2015, and the CTBC Brothers (the Elephants had changed their name) advanced to the 2015 Taiwan Series. He pitched two shutout innings in Game 1, and he recorded another shutout inning in Game 5. After pitching 2/3 of a shutout inning in Game 6, he was surprisingly named their starter of Game 7. However, Chiu allowed 5 runs in 2 2/3 innings, and Pat Misch got the win over him with a no-hitter.

The Hualien native slumped to a 6.11 ERA in 12 games in 2016, and he only pitched 6 games in 2017. He had 25 appearances in 2018, but his ERA was 6.46. Thus, he mainly stayed in the minor league in the next two seasons, and he announced his retirement in 2020. He was the career leader of the CPBL minor league in appearances, starts, innings, hits, homers, walks and strikeouts when he retired. Yu-Yu Fan broke most of his records, but Chiu still holds the appearances and walks record as of 2023.

Overall, Chiu was 5-4 with a 5.24 ERA, struck out 86 and pitched 127 innings in 8 seasons in the CPBL.
