Phil Alexander

Biographical Information

Phil Alexander is a member of the Baseball Australia Hall of Fame.

Alexander represented South Australia in the Claxton Shield in 1967-1968, 1970-1974, 1976, 1979 and 1981-1983. In the 75th anniversary of the Claxton Shield, he was picked as South Australia's all-time All-Star utility player. He played every single position during his career, something no other player ever did for South Australia. He played center field for Australia in a 1970 10-game series with Japan, hitting .467 and was also involved in a 1971 series against South Korea, Japan and the Philippines.

He reported on baseball on the radio from the late 1970s to early 1990s, had a weekly baseball newspaper column in the early 1980s and was a TV commentator for two seasons.

He coached for South Australia in the 1986 and 1987 Claxton Shields and was head coach of the Adelaide Giants in 1989-1990, 1990-1991 and 1992 then was assistant coach in 1993-1994 and 1994-1995.

In 2014, he was voted into the Baseball Australia Hall of Fame in a class with Kaye Greenham and Brendan Kingman.
