1990-1991 Australian Baseball League
(Redirected from 1990-1991 ABL)
The 1990-1991 season was the second for the Australian Baseball League. 34 US prospects joined the league this year and several put in strong shows, though native Australians also performed well. The Perth Heat won the title with a 3-2 championship series win over the regular-season champion Daikyo Dolphins. Perth was led by Graeme Lloyd, who won the finale and another game in the playoffs; Lloyd was the playoff MVP.
Daikyo had been led by two Milwaukee Brewers prospects - 1B John Jaha, who won the batting title at .445, and C David Nilsson, an Australian who hit .400 and slugged .785 to Jaha's .803; Nilsson finished second in average. Nilsson won the MVP award. Another Milwaukee prospect, Dave Fitzgerald, led in ERA with a 7-1, 2.33 campaign, while Aussie Adrian Meagher (6-1, 2.55) was second in ERA.
Lloyd (6-1, 2.62) and Brisbane's Tim Worrell (3-4, 3 Sv, 2.76) went on to fine MLB careers.
