Daikyo Dolphins

From BR Bullpen

The Daikyo Dolphins played two seasons in the Australian Baseball League, posting an impressive 59-28 record for manager Adrian Meagher. Known as the Gold Coast Clippers originally, they became the Dolphins in the 1990-1991 ABL. That year, they were 31-9 and hit .323 as a team on their way to finishing first in the ABL. They lost 3 games to 2 in the finals to the Perth Heat in an upset. The team was loaded with All-Stars - first-team C Dave Nilsson (.400), 1B John Jaha (.445/.522/.803), DH Ronny Johnson (.383/.421/.729) and RP Bob Nilsson (7-0, 7 Sv, 0.27) and second-team OF Troy O'Leary and SP Gary Nilsson (6-1, 5.96). Dave Nilsson won the MVP Award and Meagher was named Manager of the Year. Jaha led the league in average, OBP and runs (51) and Dave Nilsson was second in average.

In the 1991-1992 Australian Baseball League, Daikyo was 28-19 but rebounded in the finals this time to beat Perth 3 games to 1 after Perth had topped them in the regular season standings. Meagher was not Manager of the Year - but was MVP after winning the Pitching Triple Crown (13 W, 102 K, 1.93). 3B Paul Gorman won the batting title at .369 while Jaha smashed four home runs in the postseason.

They became the Gold Coast Dolphins the next year.
