Biographical Information[edit]
Pete Smith pitched for the Boston Red Sox in 1962 and 1963. He is the most recent player from Colgate University to come to the majors (as of 2006). He was not the youngest pitcher on the team - a teammate on the Red Sox pitching staff was 20-year-old Wilbur Wood, who had come up the previous year. Billy MacLeod was also 20.
Smith went 8-7 (split between two teams) in his first year in the minors in 1961. In 1962 and 1963, when he wasn't in the majors, he was with the Seattle Rainiers, winning 22 games during the parts of the two seasons he was there.
