Biographical Information

Pete Donnelly played in the National Association in 1871, with the Fort Wayne Kekiongas. Along the way, his playing record was fused with that of the unrelated John Donnelly, who played in 1873 and 1874. Both Donnellys were born in Philadelphia, PA, which helped to instill the confusion.

Pete Donnelly was an outfielder for a Philadelphia team called the "Experts" in 1869 and 1870. He was signed by Fort Wayne on April 2, 1871, but on July 23rd, it was reported that he and Ed Mincher had been expelled from the team for "revolving" (whatever that means). He returned to Philadelphia and re-joined the Experts, for whom his near namesake John Donnelly was now a regular. In 1872, he was recruited by the Middletown Mansfields but never played for that outfit. He then joined the Philadelphia Olympics, an amateur club, later that summer, and never played professionally after that.
