The Middletown Mansfields or the Mansfield Base Ball Club were an expansion team who joined the National Association for the 1872 season. Prior to joining the league, the team was an amateur team having fielded teams since its formation in 1866. Led by manager John Clapp the team lasted only 24 games and posted a 5-19 record before dropping out following a 11-8 loss to the Brooklyn Atlantics.
