Biographical Information[edit]

After graduating from college in 1982, Pat Roessler immediately joined the college coaching ranks. He started as an assistant coach for the Pima Community College Aztecs in 1983. Roessler than worked as an assistant coach for the Old Dominion University Monarchs from 1984-1988. During these years he spent his summers coaching in summer collegiate leagues.

In 1989 the Chicago White Sox hired Roessler to coach hitters in their minor league system. He coached the Sarasota White Sox in 1989, the Birmingham Barons in 1990-1992, Sarasota again in 1993, and the South Bend Silver Hawks in 1994. Roessler spent the next five years as a minor league hitting coordinator for the Montreal Expos (1995-1997) and Pittsburgh Pirates (1998-1999).

Roessler returned to the Expos in 2000, this time as a major league hitting coach. After a second year with the Expos in 2001, he moved on to the Houston Astros for three years as their minor league hitting coordinator. Roessler's next stop was with the New York Yankees. In 2005 he juggled three roles - Director of Player Development, Minor League Field Coordinator, and Minor League Hitting Coordinator. He dropped the hitting coordinator position in subsequent years, though he did use his free time in 1993 to serve as the Charleston RiverDogs interim manager after the resignation of Bill Mosiello on July 12th. Roessler continued in his dual role through the 2013 season. During the last two years he added hitting coordinator responsibilities once again. He spent a final Yankees season in 2014 as merely the Director of Player Development.

Roessler moved across town to Queens in 2015 to work as an assistant hitting coach for the New York Mets. He stayed in this job for three years before being promoted to hitting coach in 2018. The Mets released him after the 2018 season and Roessler did not coach in 2019. In 2020, he joined the Washington Nationals as an assistant hitting coach. He was released after the 2023 season as part of an overhaul of the Nationals coaching staff. In 2024, he joined the New York Yankees as assistant hitting coach.
