Biographical Information

Pat Jacquez pitched in two games in his major league career, both for the Chicago White Sox in 1971. His first appearance was on April 18th against the Oakland A's. In that game, he gave up 4 hits, 1 one earned run, walked 2 and struck out 1. The White Sox lost the game, 11-2. His second game was against the Boston Red Sox. In that game, he went just a third of inning, giving up no hits or runs. The White Sox lost that game, 5-4. Jacquez faced and retired Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson in his short career.

In high school in Stockton, CA, he was a teammate of Mark Marquess who went on to a long career as coach of Stanford University after a few seasons in the minors. Jacquez was his conference's player of the year in 1965 as his high school went on to win the Central California conference title. He then went to Santa Clara University, turning down an offer from the Houston Astros, who had picked him in the 4th round of the 1965 amateur draft. After an excellent freshman year at Santa Clara (5-1, 0.78), he was drafted again the following January, in the secondary phase of the draft, and accepted the offer extended him by the Chicago Cubs.

After a first season in the minors with the Lodi Crushers in 1967, he joined the California National Guard in December of that year, serving for four months. He then joined a unit posted near his next assignment, with the San Antonio Missions of the Texas League, completing his military obligations on a part-time basis. After being a late cut in his bid to join a talented Cubs pitching staff in both 1969 and 1970, he was traded to the cross-town White Sox after the 1970 season, as part of a rare trade between the two rival teams. He made the Sox staff out of spring training and stayed with the team for the first month, although he saw little action. He was sent down to the minors when veteran Joel Horlen returned from a knee injury in early May.

After his retirement from baseball, he became a regional manager for McDonalds restaurants.

He is the father of Tom Jacquez, who also pitched one year in the majors, and the brother of minor leaguer Hank Jacquez.
