Oscar Ruiz was a star hitter in El Salvador, playing third base. He debuted at age 15 and won over 15 national titles. He led the league in average three times, RBI twice and home runs once. He helped the Salvadoran national team win the 1990 Central American Games, finishing 4th in the event in average (.455), behind David Nolasco, Angel Zúniga and Rodolfo Rosales. It was El Salvador's only Gold in baseball in the Central American Games through 2017. He also helped them win Bronze in the 1994 Central American Games.
