Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Octavio Martinez played in the minor and independent leagues from 1999 to 2012. Never much of an offensive force, he did manage a .386/.459/.582 line with 7 home runs and 47 RBI in 51 games between two teams in 2000. He didn't hit .300 or better again until 2006, when he batted .306/.350/.352 in 36 games between two clubs. The next season, he batted .329/.374/.439 in 27 games. Overall, Martinez played 14 seasons, hitting .270/.317/.348 with 11 home runs, 331 RBI and 28 stolen bases in 806 games. He rarely did much of anything with the bat, averaging one home run every 248 at-bats, one strikeout every 9 at-bats, one walk every 29 plate appearances and one stolen base every 29 games. His career highs for the aforementioned categories, respectively, were 7 (in 2000), 47 (in 2001), 19 (in 2000) and 8 (in 1999).

He was drafted by the Orioles in the 10th round of the 1999 amateur draft, between outfielder Marlon Byrd and pitcher Scott Dunn. He was signed by scout Gil Kubski.

He was an Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star in 2011 and 2012.
