Biographical Information

". . . one of the game's greatest left-handed pitchers." - The Sporting News in 1904

Noodles Hahn won 22 games for the last-place Cincinnati Reds in 1901 and had 41 complete games, a 20th century record for a left-handed pitcher, while striking out 239 batters.

Hahn was consistently one of the best pitchers in the National League pitching for the Reds from 1899 to 1904, at a time when they never finished higher than third. One teammate was Sam Crawford.

He was occasional batting practice pitcher for Cincinnati until 1946.

Hahn's arm burned out at a relatively young age (he was quite aware that he was pitching too many innings in the majors). He was once called "baseball's best piano player". After his major league days he worked for the U.S. Government and played semi-pro ball.
