History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

The 1899 Reds, although they went 83-67, finished only sixth in the league. There were eight teams over .500 out of the twelve in the league, due mainly to the 1899 Cleveland Spiders who lost virtually all their games.

The 1899 Reds were a veteran team with quite a few well-known names, including Jake Beckley and Bid McPhee. The manager was Buck Ewing. The team also featured youngsters Sam Crawford and Harry Steinfeldt, who went on to bigger fame later with other teams.
