He was a Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star that year. He began 2014 with the Double-A Huntsville Stars and earned a spot on the Southern League Mid-Season All-Star team. However, that's where he topped out as a position player and he was encouraged by the Brewers to take up pitching in 2017. He had not only pitched in college, but he had made the US team for the 2010 World University Championship.

He joined the Detroit Tigers organization in 2019 and was called up to the big leagues as a pitcher on May 10th that year. He made his major league debut the next day when he pitched 4 innings against the Minnesota Twins, allowing 1 earned run on 6 hits
