Biographical Information[edit]
Nathan Bannister played college ball at the University of Arizona and graduated in 2016. The Seattle Mariners drafted him in the 28th round of the 2016 amateur draft. A pitcher, he played in the Mariners minor league system in 2017-2018 and reached AAA for one game. The Mariners released Bannister near the end of spring training in 2019 and offered him a coaching position. After examining his options over a couple of months, he accepted the offer.
Bannister coached the DSL Mariners the last couple of months in 2019. The Mariners promoted him to pitching coach of the West Virginia Power in 2020 before the minor league season was cancelled due to COVID-19. Bannister was pitching coach of the Modesto Nuts in 2021 and through the end of June, 2022.
In July 2022, Bannister became an assistant coach for pitching at Grand Canyon University under newly appointed head coach Gregg Wallis. In Bannister's first two seasons on staff, the Lopes won both Western Athletic Conference regular-season championships. In 2024, GCU claimed its first ever NCAA tournament victory at the Division-I level, defeating two ranked teams to advance to a regional championship. Bannister remains the pitching coach heading into the 2025 college season.
