Biographical Information[edit]
Nate Garcia pitched in the Tampa Bay Rays system from 2010 to 2013 and for the independent Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks in 2014. He was taken by the Rays in the 16th round of the 2010 amateur draft and was signed by scout Brian Morrison.
With the Hudson Valley Renegades his first year, he went 3-2 with a 2.88 ERA in 16 games (6 starts) and in 2011, he went 2-4 with a 3.52 ERA in 37 relief appearances for the Bowling Green Hot Rods. With the Charlotte Stone Crabs in 2012, Garcia went 0-3 with a 3.58 ERA in 17 games and in 2013, he went 3-4 with 13 saves and a 3.48 ERA in 41 appearances back with Charlotte. By that point, he was 25 years old pitching at High A, making him about two years older than the average pitcher in the league. The Rays cut ties following the 2013 campaign and he signed on with Fargo-Moorhead, going 0-4 with 18 saves and a 4.46 ERA with them.
Overall, he was 8-13 with 20 saves and a 3.36 ERA in 111 games (6 starts) in the Rays system. In 201 innings, he allowed 180 hits and 75 walks (1.269 WHIP), while striking out 186 batters. Including his year in indy ball, his numbers slip to 8-17, 3.54 with 38 saves and a 3.54 ERA in 147 games (7 starts). In 241 1/3 innings, he allowed 220 hits and 93 walks (1.297 WHIP), while striking out 229 batters.
