Biographical Information

Myung-chul Kwon played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 11 years.

Kwon played for South Korea in the 1989 Intercontinental Cup. The OB Bears selected him in the second round of the 1992 KBO draft, and he was 4-4 with a 4.99 ERA in his first season. Kwon improved to 10-8 with a 3.01 ERA in 1993, then he went 6-7 with a 3.23 ERA in 1994. Kwon had his career year in 1995, and he had a 15-8 record with a 2.47 ERA. He ranked 5th in ERA (between Sang-yeop Kim and Dae-jin Lee), 4th in wins (5 behind Sang-Hoon Lee) and 4th in innings (between Hyung-kwang Joo and Sang-yeop Kim). Kwon then missed the next year due to military service.

The Incheon native pitched 12 games with a 2.76 ERA in 1997, but his ERA rose to 6.92 in 7 games in 1998. He was then traded to the Haitai Tigers for Hun-jae Choi and Jae-man Lee, but he missed the entire 1999 season due to an ankle injury. The SK Wyverns then selected him in the expansion draft, and he was 1-5 with a 9.00 ERA in 2000. Kwon recorded a 3.81 ERA in 14 games in 2001, then he pitched 45 games with a 5.93 ERA in 2002. He was then released, and the Doosan Bears picked him up. Kwon's ERA was 4.20 in 40 games in 2003, then he announced his retirement after the 2004 season. He later served as pitching coach of the Bears' minor league team from 2005 to 2009, and he became the bullpen coach for the LG Twins in 2011. Kwon returned as pitching coach in 2012, and he coached in the Bears system as of 2025.

Overall, Kwon was 45-45 with a 3.93 ERA, struck out 482 and pitched 780 innings in 11 seasons in the KBO.
