Montgomery Wings

After 20 years without professional baseball in Montgomery, AL, the Montgomery Wings came on the scene in 2001 in the All-American Association. Clearly the league's most popular team, the Wings drew 78,069 fans to Paterson Field, more than the next two clubs combined. Managed by Lou Thornton, Montgomery finished fifth in the six-team league at 34-38, though they were closer to first place than last. C Gerard McCall (.297) and DH Ben Brack (.330, .502 slugging) were All-Stars. The 2002 Baseball Almanac also lists Brennan Dees (.329) as the All-Star third base, though it later says he was an OF-2B while Charlie Dees (.251, .475 slugging) is noted to be an OF-3B.

When the All-American Association disbanded after its only season, Montgomery joined league champions Baton Rouge as founding members of the re-formed Southeastern League, where they played for two seasons. In 2004, the city again drew an Organized Baseball team in the form of the Montgomery Biscuits.
