Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Lou Thornton was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays from the New York Mets in the 1984 Rule V Draft. As require, he spent the entire 1985 season with the Blue Jays, although he played relatively little, with just 72 at-bats in 56 games. Still, this would be his busiest major league season, and he appeared in two games in the 1985 ALCS, both times as a pinch-runner. He was back in the minors in 1986 and in 1987 and 1988 appeared briefly with Toronto, buy again mainly as a pinch-runner; he had just 4 at-bats in 23 games those two years.

After he passed through a couple of organizations, he returned to the Mets as a free agent midway through the 1989 season and was given a look at the end of that year, going 4 for 13 with a double. He made the Mets' roster at the start of the 1990 season, but was sent back down after three games, without having gotten an at-bat. He never played in the majors after that, playing the rest of the season with the AAA Tidewater Tides, for whom he hit .227 in 109 games.

After his playing days, he managed the Montgomery Wings for three seasons in the independent All-American Association and the Southeastern League.
