Biographical Information

Moby Benedict was a minor league player, college coach and minor league manager.

He was in the Detroit Tigers chain in 1957, hitting .272/.454/.459 for the Idaho Falls Russets, with 112 walks, 14 homers, 21 times hit by pitch and 112 runs. He led the Pioneer League in times plunked and in strikeouts (145), was 6 runs shy of the co-leaders and was third in walks. His .945 fielding percentage at short was second among the league's starters there. He only had token appearances with the 1958 Lancaster Red Roses (1 for 13) and Knoxville Smokies (0 for 2) after his impressive debut.

Benedict was the coach at the University of Michigan from 1962 to 1979. He led the school to the 1978 College World Series. He later managed for four years in the minors.
