Biographical Information[edit]

Ming-Te Chen pitched in the Taiwanese national team and the CPBL.

Chen represented Taiwan in the 1981 World Junior Championship and won Bronze in the 1983 Intercontinental Cup. The Mercuries Tigers drafted Chen in the first round of 1990 CPBL Draft, and he soon made it into the rotation. Chen was 4-4 with a 2.16 ERA in 1991, and participated in the All-Star game as a rookie. He shut out the Uni-President Lions in June 28 and became the first pitcher in the Tigers' history to throw a shutout without walking anyone. The Taitung native continued his stable pitching performance, and recorded a 5-8 with a 3.94 ERA in 1992. He threw an amazing 12-inning shutout against the Jungo Bears in August 29 1993, to set the CPBL record for most shutout innings in a game. Chen was 2-3 with a 2.77 ERA in 30 appearances that year.

Chen still recorded a 3-4 record with elite 3.15 ERA in the next year, but the overuse ruined his left hand. Chen's ERA rose to 7.11 in 1995 and never lower than 5 in his remain career. He was 1-6 with a 5.87 ERA in 1996, then the Tigers released Chen after he allowed 12 runs in just 10 1/3 innings pitched. The Chinatrust Whales signed him. Chen was 0-2 with 4.63 ERA in 7 games with the whales, and then he left the league on the end of this season.

Chen's repertoire included a fastball (peak 88 mph), curveball and forkball.

Overall, Chen was 15-60 with a 3.62 ERA and pitched 512 1/3 innings in seven seasons in the CPBL.
