Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Mike Papi was the 38th overall pick in the 2014 amateur draft, having been selected by the Cleveland Indians, one pick after college teammate Derek Fisher. The scout was Bob Mayer. He was originally drafted in the 30th round of the 2011 amateur draft by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, but did not sign.

He played for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and Lake County Captains in 2014, hitting .181/.301/.271 with 3 home runs and 18 RBI in 41 games. He was named the Indians #5 prospect going into 2015 by Baseball America. In 2015, he batted .236/.362/.356 with 4 home runs and 45 RBI in 127 games for the Lynchburg Hillcats; he walked 81 times. He began 2016 with the Hillcats but was promoted to the Akron RubberDucks partway through the season. He had been named the Indians #18 prospect by BA going into the season.
