Biographical Information[edit]
Minor league catcher Bernard "Mike" Kelly was manager of the Spartanburg Pioneers in 1921 and the Spartanburg Spartans from 1922 to 1929. He was a coach for the Chicago White Sox in 1930 and 1931. He left the team to join the coaching staff of the minor league Newark Bears. Kelly also managed the Jersey City Skeeters in 1933, before going on to serve as a coach for the Chicago Cubs in 1934.
Kelly managed the Syracuse Chiefs in 1936 and 1937. He then spent the next two years as a member of the Boston Braves coaching staff and the following two on the staff of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kelly was skipper of the Indianapolis Indians in 1944 and later returned to the Pirates as a scout from 1948 to 1950.
