Biographical Information[edit]

Mike Gosling struck out 6 batters in one inning in a high school game in 1998. His regular catcher was injured, and the substitute let two curveballs reach the backstop, and threw past the first baseman on another dropped third strike. (1999 Almanac)

Gosling was drafted in the 14th round of the 1998 amateur draft by the Minnesota Twins, but continued on to college. A star at Stanford University, he was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2nd round of the 2001 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Charles Scott and made his pro debut the next summer at AA El Paso.

Gosling had major league cups of coffee in 2004 and 2005 with the Diamondbacks, and in 2006 with the Cincinnati Reds. There was some thought that he might make the Reds' team to start the 2007 season, but he was sent to the Louisville Bats, where he posted a 2.25 ERA in his first three outings of their season.
