Biographical Information[edit]
Mike Fontenot was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 1st round of the 2001 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Mike Tullier and made his pro debut the next summer.
On February 2, 2005, Fontenot was traded with Jerry Hairston Jr. and Dave Crouthers to the Chicago Cubs for Sammy Sosa.
Fontenot scored the winning run in the 10,000th victory in Chicago Cubs history on April 23, 2008; they were second franchise to have won so many (following the Giants). Fontenot had entered as a pinch-runner for Geovany Soto in the 10th and scored on a Ryan Theriot single.
