Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Mike Allen was 43-52 in 7 seasons in the minors, peaking at AA.

He was drafted by the San Diego Padres with the first pick in the 2nd round of the 1972 amateur draft. He was 1-8, 5.28 ERA for the Tri-City Padres in 1972 and tied for second in the Northwest League in losses. He spent the first two months of 1973 on the DL, but came back to lead the Northwest League with a 1.72 ERA, going 9-3 for the Walla Walla Padres. The closest pitcher was .49 back in ERA. He also led the league in shutouts (4) and home runs allowed (9). In 115 innings, he allowed just 82 hits.

Moving up to the AA Alexandria Aces in 1974, Mike was 8-13 with a 4.79 ERA and 15 wild pitches. He returned to the Aces in 1975, going 4-8 with a 3.57 ERA.

In 1976, Allen was on the Amarillo Gold Sox and was 7-4 with a save and a 2.58 ERA. Had he qualified, he would have ranked second in the Texas League in ERA, trailing only Jay Dillard.

On January 25, 1977, he was traded by the Padres to the Houston Astros for Paul Siebert. Allen was listed on the Astros' 1977 spring roster, but never made the majors. He spent the year with the Columbus Astros with a 8-8, 3.32 record. Back in Columbus in 1978, the right-hander was 1-1 with 3 saves and a 2.57 ERA in 16 relief appearances to conclude his career.
