Biographical Information[edit]

Mike Adamson was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles as the first pick in the Secondary Phase of the 1967 amateur draft. He became the first player in draft history to go straight to the major leagues, debuting on July 1st against the Cleveland Indians. Adamson appeared in 3 games for the Orioles in 1967, going 0-1, before being sent to the International League's Rochester Red Wings for the remainder of the season. While there, he was 3-4, pitching 60 innings and turning in a good 1.95 ERA. He had first been drafted in the first round proper of the 1965 amateur draft, the very first amateur draft, with the #18 pick, by the Philadelphia Phillies, but did not sign.

Mike started 1968 with the Red Wings, finishing 8-4 in 60 innings with a 3.07 ERA. He was called up to the Orioles in mid July, going 0-2 in 7 2/3 innings with a 9.39 ERA, before returning to Rochester. In 1969 Mike was again with both the Orioles and Red Wings, building an 11-8 record in 149 innings with a 4.17 ERA with the Red Wings and going 0-1 in 6 games with the Orioles, capping his big league career. Mike appeared in 27 games with the Rochester club in 1970, going 4-5 in 95 innings with a 4.36 ERA. He spent 1971 with three different minor league teams, with an overall record of 1-3 in 74 innings and a combined 8.06 ERA, reaching the end of the line. Overall, his major league line was a disappointing 0-4, 7.46 in 11 games and 25 1/3 innings.
