Biographical Information

On January 28, 1967, Mike Adams was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the secondary phase of the January 1967 amateur draft. He spent that season with the Class A Florida State League Lakeland Tigers. The infielder appeared in 77 games, hitting .241 (61-for-253) with 6 home runs. Before the 1971 season, he was traded to the Minnesota Twins for pitcher Bill Zepp. Mike plied his trade in the minors until he got a brief look in 1972. He appeared in 3 games and went 2-for-6 at the tail end of the season. Adams was with the Twins again in 1973, getting in 55 games with 66 at bats, mostly as a pinch hitter. He did hit 3 long balls but only batted .212. One of the homers was a two-run shot, the lone hit allowed in five innings by hotshot Texas Rangers prospect David Clyde in his major league debut on June 27th.

Adams was with the Pacific Coast League Tacoma Twins in 1974 where he hit 12 home runs and hit .307. Traded to the Chicago Cubs after the season for catcher Tom Lundstedt, he showed up in 1975 with the AAA Wichita Aeros and again hit 13 dingers with a .308 mark. Mike appeared in 25 games with the Cubs in 1976 and hit only .138. He also appeared with Wichita again, hitting .304 in 36 games. In 1977, Mike played 2 games with 2 at bats in Chicago and spent the rest of the season with the Aeros again. This time, he appeared in 120 games, hitting .321 (119-for-371) with 23 bombs. The Oakland Athletics purchased Adams from the Cubs on April 1, 1978 and he got into 15 games, hitting .200 (3-for-15), ending his big league days He headed out to the PCL again, where he hooked up with the Vancouver Canadians for 68 games, batting .293 (65-for-222).

Adams spent 11 years in and out of the minors and majors in a very up and down way. His major league stats show him appearing in 100 games and batting .195 with 3 home runs. His minor league numbers were considerably better. He appeared in 958 games, hitting .289 (880-for-3,003) with 113 home runs. It is believed that Adams played a season or part of one, possibly around 1969, with the Cardenales de Lara team of the Venezuelan League, as the baseball card pictured above shows. As of this writing, there is no verifiable statistical information available for substantiation.

Mike primarily wore number 25. He is the son of Bobby Adams and nephew of Dick Adams.
