Biographical Information[edit]

Mickey Gasper went 0 for 18 in his first taste of the major leagues for the Boston Red Sox in 2024. Originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the 27th round of the 2018 amateur draft, he had joined the Red Sox organization after being taken in the minor league portion of the 2023 Rule V Draft. With Boston, he played 6 games at second base and 2 at first base, but in the minor leagues he has split his time between first base and catcher, with occasional other appearances at other positions. As befits a low-level draft pick, he was principally a back-up in the minors, never appearing in as many as 100 games in any season and only making it to AAA in 2023. Still, he hit a solid .328/.440/.531 in 92 games between the AA Portland Sea Dogs and AAA Worcester Red Sox in 2024, justifying his call-up to the Show.

On December 24, 2024, he was traded to the Minnesota Twins in return for P Jovani Moran, who had missed the previous season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
