Biographical Information

Mike Keirstead pitched in the minors and for Team Canada.

The Los Angeles Dodgers took him in the 28th round of the 1999 amateur draft; it is possible he was a draft-and-follow as he did not appear that season. He was 4-3 with a 4.81 ERA for the 2000 Great Falls Dodgers. In 2001, he was with Great Falls (1-1, 5 Sv, 2.34; 52 K in 34 2/3 IP) and the Wilmington Waves (0-1, 4.82 in 7 G). He tied Ben Fox for 9th in the Pioneer League in saves. With Canada in the 2001 Baseball World Cup, he relieved Chris Mears with a 3-0 deficit and retired all seven batters he faced (two by K), including Orlando Miller; Canada came close in a 3-2 loss to Panama. His next outing, he replaced Brett Gray in the 6th with a 2-1 lead over the Netherlands but allowed four hits, a walk and three runs in 2 2/3 IP (though he did fan 4) before Ian Harvey took over; he took the loss to Patrick De Lange. He finally closed out Mears' 7-0 win over the Philippines, going 1-2-3 versus Andro Cuyugan, Lorenzo Icban and Ruben Angeles. Only Craig Mosher had a higher ERA for Canada in the event but only Gray had more strikeouts.

During 2002, he was with the South Georgia Waves (4-5, 3.93 in 14 G) and Vero Beach Dodgers (1-0, 7.71 in 2 G). After going 4-5 with a 3.84 ERA for Vero Beach in 2003, he was released by the Dodgers. The Pittsburgh Pirates picked him up but he was 0-5 with a 6.75 ERA for the Hickory Crawdads to end his pro career at 13-21, 4.55 with 5 saves in 89 games (47 starts).
