The Metropolitanos began play in the Serie Nacional in 1974-1975. Nicknamed the Guerreros (Warriors) they were the lesser baseball team in Havana after the Industriales. Over the years many of their best players wound up being transferred to the Industriales. In their 38 years they made only two playoff appearances before closing shop after the 2011-2012 season. Lazaro de la Torre and Rene Arocha are among those who started their careers here.
