Biographical Information

Matthew Cooley pitched for the South African national team.

In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, the 18-year-old made one appearance. Relieving Chad Mauritz to close out a loss to champion Cuba, he retired Michel Enríquez. Yuli Gurriel took him deep then he got Joan Carlos Pedroso to end the contest. He also pitched once in the 2007 Baseball World Cup, facing Mexico. Taking over for Gavin Jeffries in the 7th with a 10-3 deficit, he pitched a shutout inning with one hit, one walk and one strikeout. Llewellyn Gerber relieved him in the 8th. His 0.00 ERA led the team; Robert Verschuren was next at 5.14.
