Robert Verschuren has pitched for the South African national team since he was 21 years old. In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, he allowed 7 hits, 5 walks and 6 runs in 4 1/3 IP over 3 appearances. During the 2006 World Baseball Classic, he tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings, though he walked 3 batters. In the 2007 Baseball World Cup, he was 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA, taking the loss against the host Taiwan national team. In the 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament, he pitched one game, taking the loss against the South Korean national team, allowing 3 runs in 4 innings. He also caught two innings in one game. Verschuren was on South Africa's roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic but did not pitch in the event.
