Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Weagle pitched six years as a pro before becoming a coach.

Weagle set the Franklin Pierce University records for complete games (17) and strikeouts (257, later broken), was Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Year and a NCAA Division II All-American, the first All-American in program history. [1] The St. Louis Cardinals took him in the sixth round of the 2003 amateur draft, one round before Brendan Ryan. He was 0-1 with 10 runs and 15 hits in 8 innings for the 2003 Johnson City Cardinals then spent 2004 as a coach at College of the Holy Cross. [2] Back with Johnson City in 2005, he had a 1-3, 7.00 record with three saves in 18 games.

Matt was pitching coach at Worcester Polytechnic Institute from 2006-2010. [3] In the summers, he continued his career with the Worcester Tornadoes and went 3-2 with two saves and a 2.51 ERA, walking only 18 in 89 2/3 IP. He was third in the Canadian-American Association in ERA behind Junior Guerrero and Bryan Morse. [4] He fell to 2-7, 4.70 for his hometown team the next year. In 2008, he improved to 10-7, 4.01. He tied Brian Rodaway and Brian Rodaway for 6th in the Can-Am in wins, tied for ninth in losses and tied Tom Cochran and Wayne Lundgren for 7th with 85 K. He was 1-4 with a 6.32 ERA in 2009 to finish his pro career at 17-24.

Weagle then coached at Becker College in 2012 then returned to Franklin Pierce in 2013-2014 as pitching coach.[5] He returned to Worcester Polytechnic in 2015-2022. [6] He also coached for the USA women's national team in the 2014 Women's Baseball World Cup (Silver Medal), 2015 Pan American Games (Gold) and 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup then managed them in the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup.
