Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Matt Skole began his professional career in 2011 and reached the majors in 2018.
He was taken by the Washington Nationals in the fifth round of the 2011 amateur draft and was signed by scout Eric Robinson. He hit .290/.382/.438 with five home runs and 48 RBI for the Auburn Doubledays in 2011.
2012 put him on the map. He hit .291/.426/.559 with 27 home runs, 104 RBI, 11 steals and 99 walks in 119 games between the Hagerstown Suns and Potomac Nationals. He was named the Nationals' Minor League Player of the Year, a MiLB.com Organization All-Star, a Topps Class-A All-Star, an Arizona Fall League All-Prospect Team member, the South Atlantic League Most Valuable Player, a Mid-Season All-Star and a Post-Season All-Star that year.
He played only briefly in 2013, hitting .200 in five at-bats for the Harrisburg Senators, before injuring his left elbow in a collision April 5 at first base. He had Tommy John surgery and missed the rest of the season, returnign for the AFL.
With the Senators in 2014, he batted .241/.352/.399 with 14 home runs and 68 RBI in 132 games. He began 2015 with Harrisburg, but was promoted to Triple-A for the first time partway through the year.
Entering 2013, Baseball America ranked him the Nationals #5 prospect and MLB.com ranked him #11. BA ranked him #4 going into 2014. He was also a MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2011 and 2014 and in 2011, BA named him a Short-Season All-Star.
After spending his first seven seasons in the Nationals organization, Skole signed with the Chicago White Sox as a free agent before the 2018 season; he made his major league debut with the team on May 28th.
His grandfather, Thomas Skole, played in the minor leagues in the 1950s. His younger brother, Jake Skole, began his professional career in 2010.
