Biographical Information[edit]
IF/OF Matt Padgett played in the minor leagues from 1998 to 2015. he was a 5th round choice by the Florida Marlins in the 1998 amateur draft and played in their organization until 2005, including two full season in AAA with the Albuquerque Isotopes in 2004 and 2005. he put up some some good numbers, including 28 doubles and 24 homers in 2004, and a line of .293/.390/.441 in 25 games for the Brevard County Manatees of the Florida State League in 2001.
In 2006, he played 19 games for the Iowa Cubs, hitting just .164, but did a lot better with the Reading Phillies, where he hit.304 in 3 games. 2007 was his final season in affiliated baseball, which he split between Reading and the AAA Ottawa Lynx. he hit .247 in 126 games.
He then moved to the Independent Leagues, starting with two seasons with the York Revolution of the Atlantic League in 2008 and 2009, followed by one year with the Long Island Ducks and other with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the same circuit. he played for three different teams in three different leagues in 2013, then was with the Acereros de Monclova in the Mexican League in 2014, where he hit .294 in 85 games. In his final season, 2015, he was with three different teams in the American Association.
In 2017, he obtained his first managerial assignment, succeeding Joe Calfapietra as manager of the New Jersey Jackals of the Canadian-American Association; he had been the bench coach the prior campaign.
Padgett was head coach at Ben Lippen School. He moved across the street to Columbia International University as assistant coach in 2021.
