Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Leonard played in the minors and Germany.

Leonard was 3-5 with a 5.85 ERA as a college freshman, missed a year due to Tommy John surgery then went 5-3 but with a 7.68 ERA as a redshirt sophomore. He led the Big West Conference in runs (70) and earned runs (66) allowed. He was 0-4 with a 6.59 ERA as a redshirt junior. The Cincinnati Reds took him in the 38th round of the 2010 amateur draft; Rex De La Nuez was the scout.

Matt split his first pro summer between the Billings Mustangs (0-1, Sv, 3.80 in 10 G) and AZL Reds (1-1, Sv, 3.75 in 6 G). In 2011, he was with Billings (2-1, 5.23 in 23 G) and the Bakersfield Blaze (1 R in 2 IP). He struck out 27 and walked only 5 in 20 2/3 IP for Billings, giving up 31 hits.

Let go by the Reds, he signed with Germany's Bad Homburg Hornets for 2012. He was 1-8 with a 7.17 ERA, 91 hits and 42 walks in 59 IP, though he fanned 60. He also was a backup outfielder, hitting .235/.255/.291. He led the southern Bundesliga-1 in losses, though he did tie for 8th in strikeouts. He tied for 5th in walks and allowed the most hits and runs.
