Biographical Information

Pitcher Matt Koch was drafted twice, first out of high school in the 37th round of the 2009 amateur draft by the Boston Red Sox, and again in the 3rd round in 2012 by the New York Mets, out of the University of Louisville. The scout was Jarrett England.

He began his pro career in 2012 with the Brooklyn Cyclones of the New York-Penn League, going 0-2, 5.01 in 13 games. In 2013, he was with the Savannah Sand Gnats of the South Atlantic League and did better, going 6-4 with a 4.70 ERA in 18 games, including 15 starts. With the St. Lucie Mets in 2014, he was 10-4 with a 4.64 ERA in 22 starts. His relatively high ERA was the resulting of giving up 141 hits in 102 1/3 innings. His strikeout rate was also low, at 4.7 per 9 innings. In 2015, he was sent to the Binghamton Mets of the AA Eastern League where he was used as a swingman. He made 35 appearances including 8 starts, but his record was only 4-8. However, most of rate stats improved over the previous year, with an ERA of 3.46 - by far his lowest as a pro - and a strikeout rate of 5.6 per 9 innings while maintaining a solid K/W ratio.

On August 30, 2015, he was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks, alongside P Miller Diaz, in return for major league reliever Addison Reed.
