Biographical Information[edit]
Masayuki Furuta was the second base on the same college team that included Shigeo Nagashima. He later helped Kumagai Gumi win three intercity industrial league tournament titles. He never turned pro despite many offers to do so. Furuta won gold as a member of the Japanese national team in the 1959 Asian Championship. He managed the Japanese national team to the 1973 Asian Championship title. He was elected into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010 alongside pro stars Shinichi Eto and Osamu Higashio.
