Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Marty Maier was signed by the Kansas City Royals in 1974. He played that summer for the GCL Royals (2 for 3, BB) and Jacksonville Suns (3 for 9, BB). After spending one season in the Royals organization, he played another year in the New York Yankees chain. With the 1975 Fort Lauderdale Yankees, he hit .217/.327/.250 in 33 games.
After his playing days, Maier was a longtime scout, most notably for the St. Louis Cardinals, for whom he also served as scouting director. With St. Louis, he was instrumental in the signings of Vince Coleman, Lance Johnson, Danny Cox, Luis Alicea, Rick Ankiel, Matt Morris, and Placido Polanco. He also served as a scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers as well as the Royals.
In late 2010, Maier joined the Cincinnati Reds front office as an assistant to GM Walt Jocketty.
