Biographical Information

Martin Rivas had a 30-27 record in six seasons in the minor leagues.

Rivas debuted in 1975 with the GCL Pirates, where he went 2-1 with 2 saves and a 4.00 ERA in 13 appearances. In 1976, he returned to the club and had a 1-1 record with two saves and a 1.80 ERA in 11 games. He also played that year for the Charleston Patriots.

In 1977, Martin went 4-5 with 8 saves and a 4.19 ERA for Charleston; he tied for third in the Western Carolinas League lead in saves and averaged over a strikeout per inning. In 9 games, he was 2-1 with a 6.30 ERA with the Salem Pirates.

Rivas was traded with George M. Hill and cash to the Boston Red Sox for Mike Easler. He did not pitch in 1978. In 1979, the right-hander went 11-6 with 6 saves and a 3.74 ERA in 36 games for the Winston-Salem Red Sox. The next year, Rivas led the Carolina League with 21 saves. In 56 games, he was 6-10 with a 2.20 ERA. Had he qualified, he would have ranked second in the league in ERA. Rivas missed another year in 1981. In 1982, he returned for a final campaign, split between the Winter Haven Red Sox (1-3, 1 Sv, 3.38 in 9 games) and the Bristol Red Sox (3-0, 5 Sv, 2.68 in 28 games).
