Biographical Information[edit]
The son of two-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove Award winner Marquis Grissom, Marquis Grissom Jr. was born in Los Angeles, CA while his father was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. While Marquis Sr. was a speedy center fielder and savvy base stealer, Marquis Jr. is a pitcher (something his father also did as a two-way player in college). His uncle, Antonio Grissom, also played professionally.
He was drafted on his 21st birthday in the 2022 amateur draft, going in the 13th round to the Washington Nationals after two years at Georgia Tech. He was initially assigned to the Florida Complex League, but graduated to class A after 3 games with the FCL Nationals. He subsequently appeared in 4 games for the Fredericksburg Nationals. While he started 21 of his 27 college games, all seven of his appearances in the Nationals chain in 2022 came in relief.
He was to begin 2023 back in Fredericksburg, but instead began the year on the injured list. He was activated on May 17th.
