Biographical Information

Mark Tanner was taken in the sixth round of the 1968 amateur draft by the Kansas City Royals but did not sign. Four years later, he was taken in the 21st round by the Chicago Cubs. He began his career with the 1972 GCL Cubs, going 3-4 with a 4.70 ERA. In '73, Tanner was 5-3, 3.53 with two saves in 8 games for the Quincy Cubs and 29 for the Appleton Foxes. With the 1974 Gastonia Rangers, he was 8-1, 3.20. He was 0-1 for the Pittsfield Rangers that season. In 1975, Mark slipped to 3-8, 6.65 for the Lynchburg Rangers. Two years later, he was 0-3, 6.88 for the Victoria Rosebuds of the independent Lone Star League to end his career. Overall, his record was 19-20.

Tanner's brother Bruce Tanner was at one time bullpen coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates and his father Chuck Tanner is a former major league outfielder and manager.
